The no. Series
It wasn’t until my second year at university when I noticed them, but they must have been there the whole time because they seemed familiar, like I had just been ignoring them. I realized I had passed 3 of them one day and backtracked and looked at them all: “no.” written neatly in thick white ink, sometimes in full view and sometimes hidden all over the campus and the downtown area.
Who wrote them? Did they mean anything? Was there an original creator and scores of copiers? All I knew was I wasn’t the only one to overlook them–most students had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned them.
Instead of trying to find an explanation I decided just to document them getting 15 in total, while finding over 20. I am sad to have not collected more but I hope to see them popping up in many more places in the future.
